FOR SALE - MG Midget 1275 RWA 5-Speed Tax Exempt 1973

MG Midget 1275 RWA 5-Speed Tax Exempt 1973

This is my 1973 MG Midget, it is in excellent condition having been professionally restored in the 1990's and garaged since. It has been converted to 5-speed using a Ford Type 9 conversion with shortened rear casing so the gear lever is in the correct location. The front end has been stripped down completely and the engine bay and wheel arches have been resprayed. The vehicle has covered less than 1000 miles a year over the last 2 years and previously spent about 5 years off the road - I had kids and was unable to find time to spend on hobbies... The following items have been carried out over the last 3 years:
  • New ignition barrel fitted (the old barrel would accept any key so insecure)
  • New brake drums and brake shoes
  • New handbrake cable
  • New front suspension bushes (Polybush) - I have all rear poly bushes ready to fit - they will be included with the vehicle
  • New front brake discs and pads
  • New clutch slave cylinder
  • New copper brake pipes
  • New braided brake hoses front and rear
  • Silicon brake fluid
  • New battery
  • New ACCUSPARK electronic ignition
  • New lucas gold ignition coil
  • New ignition leads
  • MOT until 23rd June 2016
I also have a shoe box full of receipts, and paperwork showing lots of the cars history.
Unfortunately I don't get the opportunity to use the vehicle very often as I have 2 young children and therefore need 4 seats - I would consider swap or PX for either a Rover Mini Cooper or a modern day van similar to VW - Please email details for consideration.

The 2 main areas that will require attention at some point are:
1) Rust protection of the rear underside - the underseal has reached the end of its survivable life and is going brittle; I have removed some of the underseal and there is light surface rust visible. If I were keeping the vehicle I would attend to this over the winter months.
2) The front lower corners of the roof are damaged and missing the clips that hold the corner of the roof in place.
